MLK Day of Service at South Philly High and Protest/Support March
Hey-lo all,
On MLK Day, Mon, 1/18, Catzie and I will be at South Philly High School, site of the recent violence against APIA students, to perform and lead workshops. The event is being coordinated by EducationWorks--special thanks to Bianca White for reaching out and for all her hard work putting this event together.
The mission of the day is to reintroduce students to one another through artistic self-expression/poetry, build students' ability to communicate more effectively, value difference, learn peaceful conflict resolution skills, and to compose a STATEMENT OF UNIFIED IDENTITY to present to the school.
Participants will be EducationWorks HiStep Students, Project Building Cultures students, South Philadelphia High School students, as well as students and staff from Operation Understanding, Boat People SOS, Inc., and The Mural Arts Program.
The program begins at 9am and will continue until 1pm.
There is another event later in the afternoon--a march which is a show of support to all of the students who are speaking out against and trying to do something about the violence in their schools.
March for Justice and Peace in Philly's School System
1/18, 3-5pm
Starting point: 440 N. Broad Street (School District Bdg)
End point: Arch Street Methodist Church, Broad and Arch Sts.
Please support if you can.
And wherever you are in the country/world, please think of your fellow brothers and sisters and try to spread love rather than hate.
Many blessings,
Michelle
