Women of Color Conference, University of Oregon, Jan 21-23

Happy New Year everyone!  Yes, another late-ass posting, but we will be in Eugene, OR at UO for the Women of Color Conference.  And Angela Davis will be there, too!!!  I am very excited about that.  Hope you can come if you're out there.

Love,
Michelle

Our New Year’s Resolution: Ending Oppression Through Expression
8th Annual Women of Color Conference with Yellow Rage and Favianna Rodriquez
January 21-22, 2011
Conference Outline (click here)

We are pleased to present this artistic outlet of progressive trauma healing and education. We hope to provide a safe, welcoming space for women and allies who historically have been marginalized to express their voices, experiences, and/or artistic talents. Participants will attend workshops ranging from meditation to cooking to mural art, giving them the tools necessary to continue their healing and expression as resolutions throughout the year. The emphasis of this conference is healing and educating around social and political inequalities of women and on establishing ways to continue advocacy and progress through workshops, guided facilitations, lectures, and film screenings.
The organizing committee encourages both graduate and undergraduate students to register, although all are welcomed to participate.

Favianna Rodriguez is a celebrated printmaker and digital artist based in Oakland, California. Using high-contrast colors and vivid figures, her composites reflect literal and imaginative migration, global community, and interdependence. Whether her subjects are immigrant day laborers in the U.S., mothers of disappeared women in Juárez, Mexico, or her own abstract self portraits, Rodriguez brings new audiences into the art world by refocusing the cultural lens. Through her work we witness the changing U.S. metropolis and a new diaspora in the arts.  (website)
