Please pray for Derek Srisaranard

Hey everyone,

Earlier this week, some terrible news came through the wire about Derek Srisaranard, member of SULU Collective in NYC and a gifted photographer (we often use his amazing photos of us performing at the SULU Series on our My Space page). He is currently in critical condition at Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn after a hit-and-run accident last Tuesday night; he has been in a coma since.

Please keep Derek and his family in your prayers. Updates about Derek's condition are being posted by his friends at the following site: http://dereksrisaranard.wordpress.com/

Love and peace,
Michelle

Introducing . . . Geeky Asian Guy!

So a friend of mine has started a blog called Geeky Asian Guy Blog. In his own words, he says, "I'd like the site to be sort of an Asian American Daily Show." His motto: "It's my karma and I'll cry if I want to."

There are three posts so far: one about an NYU report on Asian Americans that was printed in the NY Times, another on dressing tips for Asian American men, and finally a commentary about Republicans who are purporting that their computers have been hacked "by people working from inside China."

So here he is yall--Geeky Asian Guy! Enjoy!

PS. And don't ask me to divulge his identity. That would be like . . . like following Superman to find out he's really Clark Kent. Or maybe I should have said that the other way around. I'm confused by my own analogy.

Show Your Prince Love

I'm a Prince fan. It's only been in the last week or so that I've felt that I've been able to say that without cringing in anticipation of naysayers barraging me with comments about why Prince is a "Purple Freak." Not that I'm ashamed of being a Prince fan or that I don't stand up for him, it's just that after a while, when feeling like I'm fighting alone, I just get this beat-down sense about it.

But last week I was ecstatic to discover and be reminded that I'm not alone--there ARE other Prince fans out there--and they're fighting the good fight to honor Prince's musicial genius. Boston spoken word poet and friend, Giles Li recently wrote a post on his blog wishing Prince a Happy 50th Birthday and voiced all the feelings that serious Prince fans feel about the man and his music. Please read and enjoy--and respect.
